Causes of Joint Pain & Arthritis Joint health is of prime importance for smooth and flexible movement. Indeed, it is the very cornerstone of our daily routine. Without joint health everyday working and functioning would be almost impossible. Right from getting up in the morning to carrying out our daily chores to simple activities such as walking to reach your destination – none of this will be possible. A lot of factors can cause joint disorders, such as aging, injury including fractures or broken bones, obesity, unusual exertion or overuse, strains or sprains, Tendonitis, repetitive use of affected joints putting stress on the joint or even due to general "wear and tear" of joints. Infectious diseases including Influenza, Measles (rubeola) , Rheumatic fever, Epstein-Barr viral syndrome, Hepatitis, Mumps, Rubella (German measles), Varicella (chickenpox) can also cause joint troubles. Joint pain may also be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the bursae). The bursae are fluid-filled sacs that cushion and pad bony prominences, allowing muscles and tendons to move freely over the bone.
According to Ayurveda Ayurveda has long believed that joint problems are harder to heal when the person is overweight, underweight, has hay fever, incontinence, prostate problems or constipation. The longer there has been a problem, the longer it will take to heal. Ayurveda has already identified two major types of joint problems. The first type is associated with poorly nourished joints. The second kind of joint problem in Ayurveda is associated with a toxic overload. Ayurveda teaches that ama (the sticky, toxic waste-product of incomplete digestion) can accumulate in a joint, resulting in heaviness and stiffness. If the toxins remain in the joint for a long time, it becomes painful and swollen. Damp, cold weather can aggravate this type of joint problem.
