Acupuncture Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy that involves inserting needles into the skin at specific points of the body. The specific points into which the acupuncture needles are inserted are located along ‘meridians’. These are the pathways or energy channels and are believed to be related to the internal organs of the body. This energy is known as Qi. In traditional Chinese medicine, "health" is considered a condition of balance of yin and yang within the body. The yin being the female force, calm and passive where as the yang is the male force stimulating and aggressive. The Chinese believe that the cause of ailments is due to the imbalance of these two forces. Acupuncture has been used to alleviate many disorders such as stress, allergy, colitis, insomnia and many more. Acupuncture has been effective in providing relief to joint disorders such as rheumatism, back pain and arthritis.
